Bowed String Instruments: Order of Signs

Description
Presenter: Anna Werner, Chair, Music Braille Committee

Date: Thursday, February 26, 2026

Description: There are many symbols used in music for bowed string instruments (violins, cellos, etc.). Each symbol has its own rules, and transcribing can get complicated when a note is surrounded by symbols for strings, positions, bowing, fingering, harmonics, ornaments, intervals, or more! How do we know what order of symbols to use if it’s not stated in the Music Braille Code? In this webinar we will review the symbols for bowed string instruments and the proper order for all these symbols in the braille transcription.
